Welcome!

Welcome to [info]snapecase!

The Snape Showcase is an anonymous fest that celebrates Severus Snape throughout his ages with a showcase of artwork and short fiction. Gen, het, and slash fan works of any kind and of any rating are welcome, and the fest is moderated with the goal of respecting both self-expression and sensibility by employing click-to-view warnings. [info]snapecase's purpose is to bring new, stand-alone Snape-related fan works into the world; its challenge for creators is to do so by exploring one particular age range of his life within their individual (or collaborative!) works of art, fic, or art & fic.

Age-Range Categories
One  Snape from birth to 10-years-old
Two  Snape from 11- to 20-years-old
Three  Snape from 21- to 30-years-old
Four  Snape from 31- to 40-years-old
Five  Snape from 41- to 50-years-old (and beyond)

The Snape Showcase previously ran in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

  1. Sign-up Period (September-Complete Category Assignment): During the sign-up period, request age-range categories in order of preference; you'll be assigned one age-range category at a time on a first come, first served basis. (If you're not a member of LiveJournal, you may cut and paste the sign-up template into an email, tailor it appropriately, and send it to snapecase [at] gmail [dot] com.)

  2. Category Assignment (First Come, First Served) & Fan Work Preview: Category assignments will be emailed on a first come, first served basis from the mod account, snapecase [at] gmail [dot] com. Reply to your category assignment upon receipt of it to confirm your email address and verify your intention to participate in the Snape Showcase. Once that's done, friend the [info]snapecase_mod if you'd like a private preview of your fan work before it posts in January. (Private previews are not possible for people who do not have LiveJournal accounts.)

  3. Production Period (September-November), Submission Guidelines, & Deadline Day (30 November): During the production period, produce, have beta'd, and submit your new, stand-alone fan work to snapecase [at] gmail [dot] com by the 30 November deadline; your fan work must fit into one LiveJournal post. Do not share your fan work with anyone other than your beta(s) because the Snape Showcase is anonymous in every respect before the Reveal.

    • Your unsigned artwork should be in the neighborhood of 800 by 600 pixels and submitted as a GIF, JPEG, or PNG file. You may submit a signed artwork of the same size, as well. Your header should be formatted in HTML as a TXT file. Attach all files to the same submission email.

    • Your fic, including its header, should be between 1,000-10,000 words and formatted in HTML as a TXT file. Attach your file to your submission email.

    • If you produce art & fic, attach all files to the same submission email.

Use the fest's required header template when formatting your artwork or fic. To do so, remove the brackets and my instructions and add the relevant information.

  4. Posting Period (1-30 January): During the posting period, follow the Snape Showcase and comment on the works that move you.

  5. The Reveal (31 January): After the Reveal posts, thank everyone involved in making the Snape Showcase a success before pseudonymously answering any comments that your fan work receives and posting it elsewhere—and accept my invitation to participate in the next run of [info]snapecase!
